I rebuilt my old system today and when I tried my USB drive on this sysem it also failed. What you say would make sense. Just completed my testing with a friends WD usb drive and it is working OK on my system. I am not techie enough to use multi-meter at the moment. Have tried all usb2 and usb3 ports all give the same result. Gents , Thanks for your support on this.

To confirm this is the case my friend who is visiting uwb the weekend is bring his drive Same type and model as mine to put on to my system. As you said though for a couple of quid it’s worth trying anyway.
December 09, Just completed my testing with a friends WD usb drive and it is working OK on my system. Neither of the two computers on which I was testing this drive were putting out enough voltage to the USB cable.

Even if it’s not your motherboard, I invite you to read this post. And guess what it works!! I can only conclude that the fault is in the USB circuit boardbut on the up side I have an additional GB drive in my system. Only cost a couple of quid! Might be worth checking. So I got out my trusty multimeter.
Decided to test the drive further by removing it from the casingremoving the small circuit board that connects to a standard SATA and power connection on the drive WD Scorpio Blue and installed it in my system. Is the problem that the motherboard isn’t seeing the drive on bootup uusb is it not finding it during a Windows session as well? Try it and come back here for comments. So problem is with my drive or so I thought! I rebuilt my old system today and when I tried my USB drive on this sysem it also failed.
